Food insecurity is an issue that affects college students nationwide. Explore the information below about access to food resources throughout Minnesota and the rest of the country.

Meal Swipes

    This program helps to provide meal swipes for St. Thomas students who are experiencing food insecurity and to not have access to food while they are on campus. Students who are experiencing food insecurity may request a limited number of complimentary meal swipes to be used at The View or The Northsider. The Dean of Students Office will review all requests and be in contact with students requesting complimentary meals.

    Tommie Food Shelf

    Tommie Shelf is a grocery giveaway that partners with two local non-profit community partners to bring two monthly grocery giveaways to campus.

    Tommie Shelf partners with Keystone Community Services on the St. Paul campus, and Good in the ’Hood on the Minneapolis campus to give away shelf-stable food and fresh produce to members of the St. Thomas community.

    Kitchen Coalition

    A partnership with Kitchen Coalition and Second Harvest Heartland provides healthy ready to eat meals that are microwave ready to students. These meals last up to three months in the freezer. The distribution of these meals coincides with Tommie Shelf. Meals are also available in the Off Campus Student Life Lounge in Anderson Student Center.

    Twin Cities Mobile Market

    The Twin Cities Mobile Market bus brings a full selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, grains and other high-quality groceries to more than 25 sites around St. Paul and Minneapolis.

    The bus visits neighborhoods that don’t have access to full-service supermarkets, grocery stores, or food shelves.

    Fare for All

    Fare For All buys fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meat in bulk to save you up to 40% off grocery store prices.

    Fare For All is community supported, open to everyone, and has thirty locations in the greater Twin Cities metro area where our food packages are sold once a month. All our locations are cash and carry – there is no need to register in advance.

    Hunger Solutions Minnesota

    Hunger Solutions Minnesota works with food banks and shelves to distribute food to hungry people with local help. See their website for a complete list of food shelves in Minnesota, searchable by zip code, as well as a list of free meals and discount grocery opportunities.
