Academics

A tradition of excellence

Academics at St. Thomas offer a breadth of opportunity, with more than 150 undergraduate majors and minors and 55+ graduate programs. We put more teaching ability in the classroom—faculty members, not teaching assistants, teach 100% of our undergrad classes. St. Thomas professors are dedicated, experienced mentors who teach both theory and practical application via our core curriculum and degree-specific courses. Our curriculum includes skill-building in communication, complex problem-solving, cultural competency, global perspectives, and .

Smaller class sizes (average is 21 students per class) means the professor knows your name, and is available to answer questions. St. Thomas is invested in the academic and personal success of our students, providing support via the Center for Student Achievement, the Center for Well-Being, and other dedicated teams.

Students have opportunities to learn through doing on campus and in the community; academic learning extends to study abroad opportunities and co-curricular events or activities. Many undergrads collaborate with professors on research and 81% have real-world internships. Our graduate students take advantage of courses, certificates and degrees to further their careers.

Our approach to education develops enduring qualities such as leadership, compassion and the desire to make a difference.
